On Tuesday night’s episode, “The Daily Show” host Jordan Klepper ridiculed Andrew Cuomo’s unusual campaign tactic involving his 1996 Ford Bronco, which closely resembles O.J. Simpson's notorious car.
Klepper described Cuomo’s attempt to defeat New York City mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani as “bizarre.” He noted:
“The only man with a chance of perhaps beating Mamdani is Andrew Cuomo, former New York governor, and mayoral candidate most likely to tell the Statue of Liberty she has a hell of an ass.”
After losing the primary to Mamdani, Cuomo launched an independent campaign. Klepper contrasted their approaches:
The show then aired Cuomo’s campaign video titled “The Good Luck Truck,” where Cuomo praised his vintage Ford Bronco as a lucky charm:
“It’s an oldie, but it is a goodie,” Cuomo said, crediting the 1996 Ford Bronco with his confidence to win the election.
Klepper highlighted the car’s resemblance to the infamous vehicle driven by O.J. Simpson during the 1994 police chase, asking with humor:
“A white, mid-’90s, Ford Bronco? Isn’t that O.J.’s car? This was his final pitch to voters? I own the only vehicle on the planet associated with murder.”
The audience burst into laughter, clearly catching the reference and the oddity of Cuomo’s campaign strategy relying on this car.
Andrew Cuomo’s last-minute campaign gimmick centered on a Ford Bronco resembling O.J. Simpson’s car, drawing sharp satire and laughter for its bizarre nature.
