Another wave of powerful winds is expected to return tonight and persist into Thursday morning as a low-pressure system travels across northern New England and reaches the Gulf of Maine. As it pushes toward the Canadian Maritimes overnight, the system will rapidly intensify through a process known as bombogenesis.
A high-pressure system will approach from the southwest, tightening the pressure gradient and boosting wind strength across the region. This setup will channel strong westerly and northwesterly winds over the Northeast.
“Air flows from high pressure to low pressure. The bigger the difference, the stronger the winds.”
Wind speeds are expected to reach 20–40 mph, with gusts potentially between 50–60 mph. The most intense conditions will likely occur around 11 p.m. across southern and central New England. Residents should prepare for possible power outages, fallen branches, and flying debris such as overturned trash bins.

The storm moving through New England will bring fierce overnight winds, possible outages, and cooler temperatures before calm returns by Friday afternoon.
