The Miss Universe 2025 pageant, held this year in Thailand, has faced a significant controversy involving the Mexican candidate, Fatima Bosch.
Fatima Bosch was publicly insulted by Nawat Itsaragrisil, a member of the local organizing committee, during a reception with other contestants. According to social media footage, Mr. Itsaragrisil called her an "idiot" after she explained that she had followed her national committee's instructions.
The situation escalated when Bosch tried to respond, leading security to intervene and the contestant to leave the event in tears.
In solidarity, several contestants left the room with Fatima Bosch. Video shows many Miss Universe participants gathering outside, offering protection and support to her.
Victoria Kjær Theilvig, the reigning Miss Universe, condemned the incident as "more than just a lack of respect" and praised Bosch's courage to stand up for herself.
Other contestants, including representatives from Panama, Costa Rica, Palestine, and Puerto Rico, also expressed their support, emphasizing that defending Bosch’s rights and dignity was both brave and essential.
