Sowore Accuses FG Of Plotting Death Sentence Or Life Imprisonment For Nnamdi Kanu - News Digest

Sowore Accuses FG of Planning Severe Sentences for Nnamdi Kanu

Omoyele Sowore, former presidential candidate and activist, has accused the Federal Government of secretly intending to sentence Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), either to death or life imprisonment. Sowore made these claims on his verified X account.

He stated that President Bola Tinubu’s administration has already decided Kanu’s fate, describing the move as a political scheme disguised as a judicial process. Sowore suggested the government aims to create an illusion of due process while ensuring a harsh sentence.

“The government’s goal is to create the impression of due process while ensuring that Kanu is either condemned to death or handed a life sentence.”

According to Sowore, the Federal High Court trial in Abuja, overseen by Justice James Omotosho, is being manipulated to secure this verdict. He also claimed the court might interpret Kanu’s refusal to open his defence as guilt, facilitating an easier conviction.

“The court might treat Kanu’s continued refusal to open his defence as an admission of guilt, which could make conviction easier.”

Summary

Sowore alleges that the Federal Government is using the judiciary to impose a predetermined harsh sentence on Nnamdi Kanu under the guise of due process.
