Following a police tip, Mountain View High School (MVHS) was placed under a shelter-in-place order shortly after lunch today. A notification was sent to students and families via ParentSquare at 12:45 p.m. explaining the precautionary action.
Principal Kip Glazer reported that School Resource Officer Low contacted the school after receiving a report of a person in a nearby neighborhood carrying an object that looked like an axe.
Although there was no immediate danger to the campus, the Mountain View Police Department recommended that students and staff stay indoors until the situation was investigated.
“Please know this is not a lockdown,” Glazer emphasized in the initial ParentSquare message. “A shelter-in-place simply means that students and staff remain indoors while instruction continues as normal.”
Author's summary: MVHS activated a brief shelter-in-place following a police report of a suspicious individual nearby, ensuring safety without disrupting normal instruction.
