Ryan Coogler, Tessa Thompson, Octavia Spencer, and Daniel Kaluuya will headline the group of presenters honoring Michael B. Jordan at the upcoming American Cinematheque tribute.
The ceremony will take place on November 20 at the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills. Jordan, known for his performances and direction in major films, will receive the 39th American Cinematheque Award.
Coogler and Jordan’s creative partnership has been one of the most notable in modern cinema, producing five acclaimed features together:
In Sinners, Jordan portrayed twin brothers Smoke and Stack in a gritty vampire crime saga that grossed about $367 million globally, becoming one of the highest-earning original horror films in history.
Tessa Thompson appears alongside Jordan in the Creed series, with Jordan directing the latest chapter, Creed III. Octavia Spencer, meanwhile, starred in Fruitvale Station as Wanda Johnson, the mother of Oscar Grant III, whose tragic real-life story inspired the film.
“Fruitvale Station” depicted the true story of Oscar Grant III, a 22-year-old Black man fatally shot by a BART police officer in Oakland in 2009.
Michael B. Jordan will receive the 39th American Cinematheque Award, celebrated by collaborators Coogler, Thompson, Spencer, and Kaluuya for his versatile career and lasting impact on cinema.
