Michael B. Jordan in Talks for Miami Vice Reboot

Director Joseph Kosinski is in early discussions with Michael B. Jordan and Austin Butler to star in his upcoming big-screen reboot of Miami Vice. Speaking at the Hamilton Behind the Camera Awards, Kosinski explained why these actors would be ideal for the roles.

“Michael is someone I’ve admired for a long time, [and] always wanted to work with him. Austin, I think, is proving himself as someone to watch. Again, I’ve just really admired his choices,” Kosinski said. “If it ends up being those two, I’d be very lucky.”

Reports indicate Jordan would play Ricardo “Rico” Tubbs, and Butler would portray James “Sonny” Crockett. Kosinski, known for directing F1 and Top Gun: Maverick, confirmed the film is set in 1985.

“It’s full on,” Kosinski said about the film’s period style.
