Multiple people became ill at Joint Base Andrews, a U.S. military installation near Washington, following the delivery of a suspicious package containing an unknown white powder. The package was opened inside one of the base buildings, prompting an immediate response.
As a safety measure, the building where the package was opened and an adjacent connecting building were evacuated. Authorities established a secure perimeter around the affected area.
“As a precaution, the building and connecting building (at the base) were evacuated, and a cordon was established around the area,” the base stated.
The affected building also houses the Air National Guard Readiness Center. Joint Base Andrews is located in Maryland and is frequently used by US President Donald Trump for boarding flights to key engagements.
An investigation is ongoing after those affected were transported to the Malcolm Grove Medical Center on base. First responders ensured there was no immediate threat and handed the case to the Office of Special Investigations.
“Joint Base Andrews first responders were dispatched to the scene, determined there were no immediate threats, and have turned the scene over to the Office of Special Investigations. An investigation is currently ongoing,” the base confirmed.
The incident at Joint Base Andrews involving a suspicious white powder led to several illnesses but was quickly contained and is under active investigation.
