Ethan Hawke fondly remembers his experience collaborating with Taylor Swift. He shared his thoughts during his first visit to Miami on November 2, where he was honored with the Miami Film Festival’s Variety Virtuoso Award.
During a conversation with Variety co–editor-in-chief Ramin Setoodeh, Hawke discussed his extensive career and past partnerships with Hollywood legends such as Robert De Niro, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Ben Stiller, and Julia Stiles. However, he particularly brightened when talking about reuniting with Josh Charles, his co-star from Dead Poet’s Society, for Swift’s "Fortnight" music video featuring Post Malone.
The project was both written and directed by Taylor Swift and came about thanks to Maya Hawke, Ethan's daughter. He recalled the moment Maya reached out unexpectedly:
“My daughter is creating opportunities in my life. I get a text from my daughter saying ‘Hey dad, Taylor Swift wants your number.’ So I guess they met. And anyway, Taylor Swift is a ‘Dead Poet’s Society’ fan, and so, hell, I’ll take what I can get.”
Expressing admiration for Swift, Hawke said:
“That woman is incredible. She’s a force of nature.”
His remarks coincided with Swift’s latest music milestone, as she recently released a new version of her No. 1 hit from The Life of a Showgirl.
