The NHS has issued an urgent call for people in England to receive their flu vaccinations, with only a few weeks before the cold season’s peak. Top health officials stress the importance of early protection as flu cases rise rapidly.
The flu has arrived earlier than usual this year, with reported infections three times higher than at the same period last year. The NHS hopes to limit the spread by encouraging eligible adults to come forward for their vaccinations promptly.
“The flu vaccination is the best possible way to protect yourself and your loved ones against flu as we move into the winter months,” said Allison Cannon, Chief Nursing Officer for NHS Sussex. “It’s a quick, easy, and nearly painless injection that will help keep you and your family well this winter.”
According to the latest NHS data, more than 13.2 million flu vaccines have already been delivered nationwide since the campaign began, including 428,297 doses in Sussex. This figure represents 43.7% of the region's eligible population.
Health authorities urge everyone who qualifies to get vaccinated as soon as possible to ensure maximum protection before the winter flu peak.
