Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment marks another successful collaboration between Koei Tecmo and Nintendo, blending thrilling combat and unexpected surprises. Having experienced dozens of “Warriors” titles, I assumed I knew what awaited me—but this installment introduced something refreshingly different.
Though the game delivers the expected large-scale, action-heavy battles, it also introduces a unique element reminiscent of Star Fox. This is the closest we’ve come to a new Star Fox experience in nearly ten years, complete with air combat and shooting mechanics folded naturally into the Warriors formula.
"There’s basically a mini Star Fox game in your Warriors game."
Age of Imprisonment follows the foundation set by Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity, offering an action-driven narrative that serves as a prequel to The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. Yet it also acts as a spiritual sequel, expanding on existing systems and mechanics while integrating features inspired by Nintendo’s latest Zelda installment.
The story unfolds during the ancient Imprisoning War against Ganondorf, providing crucial context leading up to the events of Tears of the Kingdom. Players witness Princess Zelda’s alliance with King Rauru and Queen Sonia, deepening the lore behind the world’s legendary saga.
In this thrilling prequel, Age of Imprisonment blends epic Zelda lore with unexpected aerial battles, offering both nostalgia and innovation for fans of the franchise.
