It’s Not Too Late to Get Your Flu Vaccination

Somerset Council encourages eligible residents to receive their flu vaccination if they have not yet done so. The optimal period for a flu jab is during autumn or early winter, before the virus starts spreading widely. This season, flu cases have already begun to rise.

Flu is more severe than a common cold. It can increase the risk of serious infections in the lungs and airways, such as bronchitis and pneumonia, and may worsen existing health conditions.

Message from Somerset Council

Councillor Graham Oakes, Somerset Council’s Executive Member for Public Health, Climate Change and Environment, recently said:
“Protecting yourself means protecting others. With flu already circulating, now is the perfect time for those who are eligible. It’s quick, safe and helps stop the spread to those most at risk.”

Influenza spreads easily and can sometimes lead to hospitalisation or even death. Due to the flu virus constantly changing, annual vaccination is advised.
