Beloved weather presenter Livinia Nixon, who began her television career on Hey Hey, It’s Saturday, is preparing for a change after two decades with Nine News. She will continue to appear on the travel programs Postcards and Getaway.
Nine’s long-serving weather presenter will sign off later this month following 20 years in the role. Nixon, now 50, reflected on her long career and the significance of the change.
“I’ve been on air for more of my life than I’ve not,” she said with a laugh. “I’m looking forward to a breather.”
She will remain part of the Nine network, focusing on her contributions to Getaway and Postcards.
Nixon explained that her decision to end her nightly broadcasts was guided by her desire to spend more time with her family. Her younger son, Ted, is about to begin high school, joining his older brother Henry.
“Presenting the weather has shaped my life and career. I owe this role everything but this is the right decision for me,” she said. “When I discussed it with our boys, they said ‘we’re pretty excited to spend more time with you, Mum’.”
Throughout her career, Nixon experienced many unforgettable live moments. One that stands out involved a segment at Healesville Sanctuary, when a green tree python unexpectedly became too close for comfort.
“The snake wrapped and squeezed, and then tried to slither in my jacket. I’d never read the weather as quickly in my life.”
After 20 years as Nine’s weather presenter, Livinia Nixon bids farewell to the nightly forecast to prioritize family life while staying active in travel shows.
