Former NFL star Antonio Brown was extradited from Dubai, United Arab Emirates, to the United States to face trial for an attempted murder charge related to a shooting in Miami earlier this year, police confirmed Thursday.
Brown, 37, is currently held in Essex County, New Jersey, while awaiting extradition to Miami-Dade County, where the shooting incident occurred. Authorities have not specified the exact time of his apprehension or when he will be moved to Miami.
“This is just another example of the relentless work and dedication of Miami Police detectives, working closely with the Miami-Dade State Attorney’s Office and U.S. Marshals to identify and arrest those who commit crimes in the City of Miami,” police said in a statement.
The charge against Brown stems from a shooting on May 16 during a boxing event hosted by influencer Adin Ross. Brown’s social media shows he had been in Dubai for several months before the extradition.
Police have not disclosed if there were prior plans for his extradition.
Brown is a former All-Pro wide receiver and Miami native. The investigation and arrest involved collaboration between Miami Police, the State Attorney’s Office, and U.S. Marshals.
