Environment Canada has issued a fog advisory for Rocky View County, including areas near Airdrie and Crossfield. Near-zero visibility in fog is ongoing early Friday and is expected to last until late morning.
There is also a possibility of freezing rain during the morning commute, posing hazardous travel conditions in some locations.
As of 5 a.m., visibility was poor along Highway 2 from Calgary city limits to north of the Highway 2A junction, and on Highway 2A between Highway 72 and Township Road 292.
Road surfaces elsewhere remain bare and dry.
Environment Canada expects the fog to clear by late morning. Snow periods should end around noon, followed by a 40% chance of afternoon flurries.
The temperature will drop to zero degrees Celsius, with a morning wind chill near –7.
"Motorists are being warned that travel may be hazardous in some locations. Drivers are urged to slow down, turn on their headlights, and leave extra space between vehicles."
