Former NFL wide receiver Antonio Brown has returned to the United States to face trial over a shooting incident that occurred in Miami nearly six months ago.
Authorities confirmed that Brown, aged 37, was extradited from Dubai and taken into custody at Newark Airport in Essex County, New Jersey. He is expected to be transferred to South Florida, although officials have not specified when that will happen.
A warrant for Brown’s arrest was issued in June, and police at the time said he was believed to be abroad. After the warrant was made public, he hired a lawyer and secured a $10,000 bond with house arrest conditions, but he did not return to Florida as required.
While overseas, Brown posted photos and videos from Dubai, some of which appeared to mock the charges against him. Marshals eventually traveled to bring him back to the United States.
According to police, the shooting took place around 3 a.m. on May 17 near 221 NE 67th Street in Miami. Officers responded after a ShotSpotter system detected gunfire. No one was injured, and despite questioning several people at the scene, no arrests were made at that time.
