Grant "Alexis Black" Freeman, an Ohio-born somatic healer and fitness coach, publicly came out as transgender in October 2024. She became the focus of controversy after a confrontation at the Beverly Hills branch of Gold's Gym, now operating as EoS Fitness.
The dispute involved musician Tish Hyman, known for her songs "Subway Art" and "Home for Christmas," who confronted Alexis Black in the women’s locker room. Hyman accused Black of being "a man" using the women's space.
"Grown men with big d***s [are] in the women's locker room," Hyman shouted, as the encounter was recorded by Brazilian journalist Paulo Francisco and others present.
Following the incident, Hyman shared on Instagram that she and "multiple women" had submitted several written complaints about Black before management intervened. She criticized the gym staff, writing, "The gym staff has done absolutely nothing," and called for a boycott of EoS Fitness while denying transphobia allegations.
"I treat people how I want to be treated... but this isn't right," Hyman stated.
As a result of the confrontation, Hyman's membership was terminated. A spokesperson from Gold's Gym noted that the location had recently become an EoS Fitness franchise and that EoS Fitness is "actively reviewing the situation."
This incident has ignited a heated online dialogue concerning privacy, safety, and the inclusion of transgender individuals in shared public spaces.
