Jennifer Lawrence, Emma Stone Developing ‘Miss Piggy’ Movie With ‘Oh, Mary’ Tony-Winner Cole Escola

Jennifer Lawrence, Emma Stone, and Cole Escola Collaborate on 'Miss Piggy' Film

Jennifer Lawrence, Emma Stone, and Cole Escola are teaming up to develop a feature film centered on Miss Piggy, the iconic Muppets character. According to informed sources, the project is in early development at Disney, which holds the rights to the Muppets.

About the Project

Miss Piggy, a legendary puppet diva who first appeared on Jim Henson’s "The Muppet Show" in the 1970s, has never been the subject of her own feature film. Lawrence and Stone will take on producer roles, while Tony-winner Cole Escola, known for the Broadway hit "Oh, Mary!," is set to write the screenplay.

"I don’t know if I can announce this but I am just going to … Emma Stone and I are producing a Miss Piggy movie and Cole is writing it," Lawrence revealed on the podcast Las Culturistas.

Potential Co-Starring and Origin

When asked whether Stone and Lawrence would co-star, Lawrence responded teasingly, "I think so. We have to… It’s fucked up [that we haven’t done a movie together]." She further explained the film's inspiration during an appearance on the Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon.

"She said, ‘Miss Piggy is a feminist icon. It would be so funny if Miss Piggy got canceled,'" Lawrence recalled about Stone's idea during pandemic lockdowns and cancel culture.

"Now that is not the plot necessarily, but it got the wheels turning."

Summary

This collaboration brings together major Hollywood talents to finally give Miss Piggy, a cultural icon, her own film that combines humor and timely social themes.
