Visible progress is steadily advancing on the North Quays project, including key elements like the Sustainable Transport Bridge, the new train station, and the South Quays Plaza near the Clock Tower.
The front elevation of the new train station is now clearly visible after the scaffolding was removed. Work continues on the northern plaza area, which will feature bus and car drop-off zones as well as access to the new southeast greenway. Installation of curbs and paving is well underway.
Structural work on the station, such as roofing, paving, rendering, and internal fit-out, is expected to finish within the next few months. However, significant mechanical and electrical installations are still pending to complete the station fully.
Waterford Council Senior Engineer Sean Dobbs said, “The station can only open once it passes through all the independent safety and compliance checks, and those will continue all through 2026 and into 2027."
The station's official opening is anticipated in 2027.
The Sustainable Transport Bridge has been fully installed, with the opening spans functioning correctly. BAM is regularly operating the spans, continuously opening and closing them as part of the final testing phase.
Upcoming work will concentrate on finishing details, including surfacing, installation of glass panels, railings, lighting, seating, and other architectural features.
The North Quays development is progressing visibly with significant structural milestones reached; while essential safety checks and finishing works continue, the train station is set to open in 2027.
