Portsmouth Election Results: Stephanie Morales Wins Commonwealth’s Attorney Race

All Portsmouth elected officials on the ballot this year secured another term. Stephanie Morales won a third full term as Commonwealth’s Attorney, easily defeating two challengers.

Morales, the first woman elected to the position, received nearly 55% of the vote according to unofficial results. Local attorney Nathan Chapman earned 24%, and former state delegate and Portsmouth City Councilman Steve Heretick garnered around 21%.

Other Election Results

Incumbent Michael Moore was re-elected for a third term as Portsmouth sheriff with about 68% of the vote, while challenger James Cullen received nearly 32%. Cullen ran as an independent and previously served as a police officer and a U.S. Coast Guard commander. Moore, a Democrat first elected in 2017, worked as a community college instructor and supervisor with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

Paige Cherry, also a Democrat, ran unopposed and won another term as city treasurer. Cherry has served as treasurer since 2017 after previously being a City Council member.
