Jennifer Lawrence humorously described her collaboration with Robert Pattinson in the film Die My Love as a form of "total revenge" after not landing a role in the Twilight series. She revealed on The Rewatchables podcast in 2023 that she was rejected by the studio immediately and "didn't even get a callback" for the part of Bella Swan.
More than 15 years later, Lawrence and Pattinson finally appear together on screen in Mubi’s new psychodrama, Die My Love, directed by Lynne Ramsay. The film, her first feature since 2017’s You Were Never Really Here, follows a writer whose mental health deteriorates under the strain of a troubled marriage and motherhood.
In the film, Lawrence and Pattinson exchange rapid-fire insults in intense verbal confrontations, contrasting with their calm professional relationship behind the scenes.
"My favorite part of working with him was probably that we could be in the same room, but not talk for a really long time," Lawrence said. "I really appreciate that in a coworker."
Pattinson mentioned that the first movie he saw Lawrence in was Winter’s Bone (2010), where she played a struggling teenager searching for her father in the Ozarks.
This marks a reunion of two actors whose careers took separate paths after the Twilight auditions.
Jennifer Lawrence jokes that working with Robert Pattinson feels like sweet revenge after missing out on Twilight, now starring together in a tense psychological drama.
