Louisiana Sludge Icons Acid Bath Reunite After 28 Years

After nearly three decades, the Louisiana sludge metal legends Acid Bath have reunited for multiple shows spanning 2025 and 2026. The band is set to perform a major concert in New Orleans alongside Mastodon, Soilent Green, and others on Saturday, November 15, at the UNO Lakefront Arena.

Final Show and Tragic Loss

On April 25, 1997, Acid Bath performed in Shreveport with Crowbar, Floodgate, and Dead Industry. Having formed near Houma in 1991, the band was still grieving the recent loss of their bassist and close friend Audie Pitre. Despite playing in a large theater, the show was poorly promoted, and the band did not profit from it, guitarist Sammy Duet recalls.

“After that show, I kind of knew it was over at that point,”

Duet said in a YouTube video reflecting on Acid Bath’s final performance. The band felt the void left by Pitre and decided to retire Acid Bath.

Enduring Legacy and Influence

Since that last performance, Acid Bath’s influence and cult status have only grown. Their two studio albums, modestly successful in the ’90s, featured a dark fusion of sludge metal, grunge, and psychedelic rock infused with the intense atmosphere of South Louisiana’s environment. This distinct sound earned them reverence within metal circles worldwide.

Sold-Out Reunion

When Acid Bath reunited for a show at The Fillmore in New Orleans on April 25, 2025, tickets sold out quickly, reflecting the band’s lasting impact and dedicated fanbase.

Author’s summary: Acid Bath, iconic for their unique sludge metal sound shaped by Louisiana’s landscapes, reunite after 28 years, reigniting their legacy with sold-out shows and renewed influence.
