French designer Agnès b. has announced the permanent withdrawal of her brand from the BHV department store in Paris. This decision comes as a response to the introduction of the Chinese ultra-fast-fashion brand Shein into the store, which has sparked ethical and environmental concerns.
Shein has faced heavy criticism for its production methods and environmental footprint. More recently, it was involved in a scandal concerning the sale of dolls with pedopornographic connotations, which were subsequently removed from sale.
“It goes against the ethics of the house,” declared Agnès Troublé, founder of Agnès b., on franceinfo on November 5th.
Following the opening of a permanent Shein space on the 6th floor of BHV, Agnès b. made a firm choice to close her men's department stand, despite her contract running until January.
“I'm leaving, I don't want to be associated with this,” she stated, expressing her refusal to be linked to the controversial Asian brand.
This withdrawal underscores the increasing pushback against ultra-fast-fashion brands on ethical and environmental grounds.
Agnès b. takes a clear ethical stand by permanently leaving BHV in protest against Shein’s problematic presence, highlighting growing tensions in fashion industry values.
