The Sud-Rail union has announced a strike from November 5 to 12 affecting employees of Transdev, the new operator of the Marseille-Nice TER line. The strike comes just four months after Transdev took over the service on June 29, marking it as the first private operator to compete with SNCF on this route.
Employees are protesting against wages they consider insufficient and challenging working conditions. The initial optimism surrounding the revitalization of the Marseille-Nice rail link has quickly turned into a social conflict.
“The company is facing a social crisis and an urgent wage dispute,” the Sud-Rail union stated.
Union delegate Frédéric Michel highlighted wage reductions affecting multiple employees in a letter to management, emphasizing the core of the conflict: wages and working conditions.
“Several employees have suffered wage losses,” Michel noted.
Transdev’s entry as a private operator on the Marseille-Nice TER line faces immediate social challenges, with staff striking over pay and work conditions just months after service launch.
