‘You Humiliated Malta’: Robert Aquilina Blasts Abela And Muscat

Fondazione Falcone activist Robert Aquilina accused Prime Minister Robert Abela and his predecessor Joseph Muscat of humiliating Malta during a dispute at the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC).

“Joseph Muscat and Robert Abela resorted to a colonial attitude to conceal the fraud and corruption in the hospital contracts,” Aquilina said.

Aquilina claimed that both leaders deliberately undermined their arbitration proceedings at the ICC, knowing the process would remain confidential.

“They sabotaged their arbitration at the International Chamber of Commerce, because they knew that proceedings would be kept secret. They were convinced that they could bury the truth in the darkness of secrecy.”

The ICC determined that Steward received approximately €885 million from the Maltese government, with total benefits amounting to around €889 million. Abela and Muscat argue that these findings disprove allegations of massive theft from public funds linked to the contract.

However, Aquilina warned that ignoring the arbitration results contradicts two court rulings that confirmed fraud related to the concession and a magisterial inquiry that called for criminal charges against senior officials.

“Muscat and Abela humiliated the Maltese courts, Malta and the people of Malta,” Aquilina stated.

This case highlights serious concerns about government transparency and respect for judicial authority in Malta.

Author’s summary: Robert Aquilina sharply criticized Prime Minister Abela and former PM Muscat for allegedly suppressing court findings and humiliating Malta through secretive arbitration over corrupt hospital contracts.
