This year marks the 40th anniversary of Naughty Dog, a studio that began as a small venture by teenagers Andy Gavin and Jason Rubin. Over four decades, it has grown into one of Sony's key first-party developers.
Gavin and Rubin founded the company during their school years. Although the company's early games like Rings of Power and Way of the Warrior are mostly forgotten, the launch of the Crash Bandicoot and Jak and Daxter franchises was a significant turning point for Naughty Dog.
The studio entered a new phase in 2007 with the release of Uncharted, ushering in a cinematic action era. This period continued through titles such as The Last of Us Part 2 and looks forward to its future projects.
At the anniversary celebration, a few brief scenes from the upcoming game Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet were shown. Alison Mori, studio manager and head of operations, stated:
"I know our studio will continue to create amazing story-driven, character-based games that touch upon the human experience."
Naughty Dog honors its past successes while hinting at an exciting future with new narrative-driven games continuing its legacy.
