On October 30, 2025, the Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW) negotiators for both postal bargaining units met with Canada Post and federal mediators. This was the first meeting since October 3, aimed at restarting discussions to move negotiations forward.
CUPW announced that further talks will take place in the coming days. Despite ongoing mediation, CUPW members continue rotating strikes, with those in the Quebec Region refusing to process and deliver unaddressed flyers (Neighbourhood Mail).
“We all have a part to play in our fight for public services, good jobs and a sustainable public post office. The negotiators thank all members for their continued support,” said Jan Simpson, CUPW National President.
Meanwhile, Joël Lightbound, Minister of Government Transformation, Public Works and Procurement, responsible for Canada Post, has expressed readiness to proceed with significant job cuts. Experts estimate that up to 10,000 positions could be eliminated due to restructuring within the Crown Corporation.
This week, the Standing Committee on Government Operations and Estimates received testimony from Minister Lightbound regarding these changes.
Canada Post has begun layoffs as part of restructuring while continuing mediation with CUPW; ongoing strikes and potential large-scale job cuts highlight the challenges facing the Crown Corporation.
