Los Angeles Dodgers relief pitcher Alex Vesia and his wife, Kayla, shared on Instagram the devastating news of the loss of their newborn daughter, Sterling Sol. The tragedy occurred on Sunday, October 26.
Before the World Series, Vesia left the team due to what was described by the Dodgers as “a deeply personal family matter.” After his departure, teammates honored him by wearing his number “51” on their caps during the series, a gesture that players from the Toronto Blue Jays also joined in.
“Our little angel, we love you forever and you’re with us always,”
“Our beautiful daughter went to heaven Sunday, October 26th. There are no words to describe the pain we’re going through, but we hold her in our hearts and cherish every second we had with her.”
Vesia and Kayla expressed their gratitude toward the Dodgers organization, teammates, and baseball fans for the outpouring of love and kindness they received during this profoundly difficult time.
“Thank you to the Dodgers for their understanding and support. Our baseball family showed up for us and we wouldn’t be able to do this without them.”
“Thank you Dodger Nation, Blue Jays organization and all baseball fans for your love and support. It’s brought us so much comfort.”
The baseball community united in solidarity with the Vesias, demonstrating empathy and compassion that extended beyond team boundaries. Gestures from teammates and rival players alike reflected mutual respect and shared humanity.
Alex and Kayla Vesia mourn the loss of their daughter, Sterling Sol, while receiving heartfelt support and compassion from the Dodgers, Blue Jays, and baseball fans worldwide.
