The Lebanese design duo David Raffoul and Nicolas Moussallem of David/Nicolas translate Buccellati's centuries-old silversmithing heritage into a natural, earthy presentation at Downtown Design Dubai.
Earlier this year, David/Nicolas reinterpreted alpine chalets through Buccellati’s craftsmanship and heritage during the “Convivium Montis” installation. This presentation combined expressive wallpapers, richly grained woods, and celadon and earth-toned fabrics to evoke mountain life’s colors and textures, while displaying Buccellati’s silverware in a warm, lived-in setting.
“Their installation combined expressive wallpapers, richly grained woods, and celadon and earth-toned fabrics to evoke the colors and textures of mountain life while showcasing Buccellati’s silverware within a lived-in environment.”
The ongoing partnership continues in Dubai, where the duo presents a thoughtful new installation at the fast-rising Downtown Design fair. This work translates Buccellati’s high-jewelry elegance into two interlocking, shell-shaped rooms leading toward a luminous central salon.
David/Nicolas grounded their design in Buccellati’s silversmithing tradition, emphasizing a deep respect for nature and harmony.
“The installation unfolds as two interlocking shell-shaped rooms that open toward a luminous central salon. Layered wood and mirrored panels curve outward in gentle arcs that catch and scatter light within.”
This collaboration highlights a shared devotion to material craft, historical detail, and natural beauty, merging Buccellati’s artisanal legacy with contemporary design inspired by the desert landscape.
The design duo David and Nicolas reimagine Buccellati’s heritage with organic forms and desert hues, creating immersive spaces that celebrate craftsmanship and nature.
