After deadly floods impacted the Philippines, a more powerful typhoon is approaching. Typhoon Kalmaegi, also known locally as Tino, caused severe devastation with over 100 fatalities confirmed as search and rescue operations continue.
Typhoon Kalmaegi battered parts of the Philippines with intense flooding and destruction. Residents are now beginning to recover from the damage caused.
Typhoon Fung-wong, called Uwan in the Philippines, is expected to be much stronger than Kalmaegi. AccuWeather meteorologists project Fung-wong/Uwan will reach Category 4 hurricane strength on the Saffir-Simpson Wind Scale before hitting the northern Philippines on Sunday.
Typhoon Fung-wong/Uwan is expected to be a Category 4 equivalent hurricane before landfall.
The typhoon’s combination of heavy rain, fierce winds, and coastal flooding is predicted to rank as a 5 on the AccuWeather RealImpact™ Scale for Tropical Cyclones in the northern Philippines, the highest possible rating.
Fung-wong has intensified and is currently a typhoon northwest of Yap Island, moving westward. It is forecast to track generally west-northwest from Friday through Monday, local time.
An eventual turn north and northeast is expected mid-next week, possibly affecting Taiwan.
"This turn can result in the storm impacting Taiwan next week."
Typhoon Fung-wong (Uwan) threatens to worsen the Philippines' situation after Kalmaegi’s destruction with forecasted Category 4 strength and severe impacts expected.
Author’s Note: The approaching Typhoon Uwan poses a critical threat to the flood-affected Philippines, demanding urgent preparedness and vigilance.
