Tampa Bay Lightning head coach Jon Cooper addressed the team following their 3-2 defeat to Nathan MacKinnon’s Colorado Avalanche in the 2025-26 NHL season.
The Lightning started strong but lost momentum after the first period, allowing the Avalanche to stage a comeback and secure two points in Denver. Tampa Bay entered the game on a five-game winning streak, which was abruptly ended by Colorado’s victory. This marked the Lightning’s first loss since October 23.
“It was good for a bit, and then we got in our own way. And when we get in our own way, it’s usually going to be tough for us,” Cooper said, as reported by NHL.com.
“It was unfortunate that [there were] untimely penalties. We took those tonight, but they were a better team for periods two and three. So, that was a little disappointing.”
While losing on the road is tough, the Lightning face a top-performing Avalanche team and have room to refocus moving forward.
Summary: Jon Cooper emphasized accountability after the Lightning's loss, highlighting penalties and a mid-game lapse against the NHL-leading Avalanche as key factors.
