Slash Spending Instead of Hiking Taxes at the Budget, Badenoch Says

Kemi Badenoch sharply criticized Chancellor Rachel Reeves after she signaled another tax increase at the upcoming Budget. Badenoch called on Labour to reduce government spending rather than impose further financial burdens on the British public.

Speaking at an event in central London, Badenoch accused the government of quietly abandoning efforts to control the rapidly growing welfare bill. She described Reeves' speech as "one long waffle bomb" filled with excuses and blamed by the Chancellor on others instead of taking responsibility for her own decisions and failures.

"She blamed everybody else for her own choices, her own decisions, her own failures."

Badenoch also highlighted that the difficulties graduates face in finding employment are not due to AI, but linked directly to decisions made in last year's Budget.

"You can draw a direct line between what Rachel Reeves did in the budget last year and the dire prospects faced by many graduates."

She warned that the tax burden is already approaching a post-war high even before the new planned increases.

Only the Conservative Party, according to Badenoch, remains committed to tackling government spending effectively.

"Only the Conservatives are committed to getting on top of spending."

Badenoch accused Reeves of presenting “a masterclass in managed decline,” which has left business leaders and investors confused due to Labour’s lack of a clear plan to revive the British economy.

"Labour doesn't have a plan to get Britain working."

Summary: Kemi Badenoch insists that Labour should cut spending rather than raise taxes, criticizing Rachel Reeves' Budget approach as lacking responsibility and clear economic strategy.
