Singer HyunA caused concern after fainting on stage during a recent show, prompting fans to recall her past health issues with vasovagal syncope.
In 2019, HyunA openly shared her health struggles on social media. She said,
“I wanted to be someone chosen by everyone, so I kept running forward without realizing I was sick.”
She admitted ignoring her condition for a long time, explaining,
“I told myself I was fine, but when I finally went to the hospital in 2016, I learned that my heart was actually hurting.”
The singer revealed she was diagnosed with depression and panic disorder, which initially shocked her. She shared,
“At first, I couldn’t believe it, but now I’m receiving regular treatment and trying not to think of it in a negative way.”
HyunA described how she came to understand her fainting episodes were due to vasovagal syncope. She recalled,
“My vision suddenly went blurry, and then I just collapsed. After tests, I was told it was vasovagal syncope.”
Medical experts explain that vasovagal syncope, or neurocardiogenic syncope, is a common cause of fainting caused by a sudden drop in heart rate and blood pressure.
HyunA's recent collapse highlights ongoing challenges with vasovagal syncope and mental health, which she faces with openness and ongoing treatment.
