Anduril Industries, a US-based defense technology company, has inaugurated a new manufacturing facility in Sydney, Australia, dedicated to producing the Ghost Shark, an extra-large autonomous underwater vehicle (XL-AUV).
The new plant spans 7,400 sqm and will create over 150 skilled jobs in the local area. It combines advanced robotic manufacturing, AI-driven logistics, and features a custom test tank for in-water verification of buoyancy, electrical systems, and safety prior to sea trials.
The factory launch follows a significant contract awarded by the Royal Australian Navy valued at $1.12 billion (A$1.7 billion) for a large fleet of Ghost Sharks, to be delivered over the next five years. The manufacturing program has started with initial low-rate production and aims to reach full-scale production by 2026.
Don’t let policy changes catch you off guard.
Anduril's Sydney factory launch marks a strategic step in autonomous underwater technology, boosting local jobs and supporting Australia's naval modernization with advanced manufacturing and development.
