Early November in the UK has brought an unusually mild spell, with temperatures considerably higher than the seasonal norm. Yet, according to the Met Office 10-day forecast, this calm and warm phase will soon shift toward more unsettled and variable weather as the new week begins.
The current conditions are shaped by a wavy jet stream pattern over the Atlantic. This setup has led to several dips and troughs, one of which extends toward Iberia. In the coming days, the trough is expected to deepen, maintaining low pressure to the south and gradually moving north toward the UK by the weekend.
As the weekend unfolds, another dip in the jet stream is predicted, forming a broader trough across the Atlantic. The combination of weakening and amplifying segments within the jet stream will create slow-moving systems next week, resulting in a tug-of-war between low pressure in the west and high pressure in the east of the UK.
“Highs on Thursday are expected to reach the mid to high teens Celsius, with some locations seeing 15, 16, or even 17°C.”
These readings sit about six or seven degrees above average for early November. Remarkably, Bonfire Night 2025 was record-breaking, with overnight lows only dipping to 14°C.
The UK’s mild November is poised to transition into unsettled weather next week as shifting jet stream patterns bring competing systems of high and low pressure.
