BIIF girls basketball: Wildcats ready to bounce back in 2025-26 - Hawaii Tribune-Herald

Konawaena Wildcats Basketball: Unity and Experience

Togetherness, camaraderie, and selflessness are core principles of Konawaena girls basketball. The Lady Wildcats display a quick pace, share the ball, and lift each other up on and off the floor. Many of the talented south Kona players have grown up playing together since grade school, forging lasting on-court connections that have helped Kona remain the face of Big Island girls basketball.

Veteran-Laden Roster

With six seniors on this year’s Wildcats squad, the team is loaded with veterans who bring big-game experience. The familiarity across the roster fuels high expectations for head coach Bobbie Awa’s program, which has earned nine state titles over two decades.

“I’m very excited to play my last season with these girls. It’s a special year because we all grew up together playing basketball, and we’re all rooted from Kona.”

Season Outlook and Motivation

Entering the season, the Wildcats carry extra motivation. In 2024-25, they finished 23-4 overall and were undefeated in BIIF play, defeating Waiakea 102-11 in the conference championship. They advanced to the Division-I semifinals against Iolani, where they lost a close 43-40. Kona then rematched the Lady Raiders in a non-conference preseason matchup last weekend, securing a 48-45 victory.
