Lotus to launch first PHEV in China in Q1 2026 – 900V platform, over 1,000 km range, 952 PS, air suspension

Lotus’ first PHEV for China

Lotus Technology has presented a new product roadmap that includes the company’s first plug-in hybrid model, scheduled to arrive on the Chinese market in the first quarter of 2026. The plan was outlined by CEO Feng Qingfeng during the firm’s third-quarter 2025 earnings conference call.

Launch timing and model

The first Lotus PHEV is planned to go on sale in China in Q1 2026, with a preview event expected to take place in January of the same year. The model is widely expected to be a plug-in hybrid version of the Eletre SUV, expanding Lotus’ portfolio beyond pure electric variants.

Hyper Hybrid platform and range

The upcoming plug-in hybrid will be built on Lotus’ Hyper Hybrid platform, which is designed around a high-performance hybrid powertrain. This setup is claimed to provide a combined driving range of over 1,000 km on a full tank and fully charged battery, positioning the model as a long-distance performance SUV.

900V architecture and charging

The Hyper Hybrid platform uses a 900-volt electrical architecture intended to enable ultra-fast charging and support advanced energy management. Together with the hybrid system, this electrical layout is aimed at delivering both efficiency and strong performance in real-world driving.

Chassis, suspension and dynamics

Lotus equips the PHEV with dual-chamber air suspension to enhance comfort and adjustability depending on driving conditions. The vehicle also features a 48-volt active roll stabilisation system, which is designed to limit body roll and contribute to what the company describes as “ultimate handling.”

Power output and performance

The plug-in hybrid powertrain is claimed to deliver 952 PS, equivalent to 939 hp or 700 kW, making it even more powerful than the current Eletre 900 variant rated at 918 PS. With this output, the PHEV is intended to sit at the top of the range in terms of performance while maintaining its extended driving range.

Market context and comments

An attached roadmap graphic briefly summarises the PHEV’s key attributes, highlighting the 900V platform, over 1,000 km combined range, 952 PS output and advanced suspension systems. In the comments section, one reader humorously reacts to the specifications by calling it an “amazing PHEV with 900V 952PS for 1000km” and exclaiming “Going Hypermode.”

“That’s amazing PHEV with 900V 952PS for 1000km,
Going Hypermode.”

Author’s summary

A high-performance Lotus Eletre-based PHEV with a 900V hybrid platform, 952 PS and over 1,000 km range will debut in China in early 2026, combining long-distance capability with advanced chassis tech.
