Sport England has announced 27 new Place Partnerships across the country, advancing its strategy to address inequalities in access to sport and physical activity. The organization emphasizes that where a child grows up often has a greater impact on their health than their genetic makeup.
The new partnerships will be developed in collaboration with local councils, charities, community organizations, and other governmental bodies. The aim is to direct investments and resources to areas where participation rates in physical activity are lowest.
These funding agreements are designed to ensure that everyone — regardless of location, income, or background — has the opportunity to live an active and healthy life.
Sport England is implementing a long-term plan titled Uniting the Movement, which runs through 2032. It focuses on creating sustainable change by breaking down barriers that prevent people from engaging in physical activities.
The initiative builds on the success of earlier pilot programs that demonstrated measurable increases in community participation, particularly in underserved regions.
“A child’s postcode can be a stronger predictor of their health than their genetic code,” said Sport England.
“This programme is about tackling those inequalities head-on and ensuring every community can thrive.”
The new partnerships will not only fund infrastructure but also support training, local leadership, and innovative grassroots programs.
