Introducing the U-Hawk Prototype
Sikorsky has unveiled a Black Hawk prototype transformed into an autonomous aircraft, designed to accompany manned missions in the air.
The U-Hawk, as it's called, retains the familiar size, shape, rotors, and green paint job of the Army's 50-year-old Black Hawk, but with a new front end and no pilots, giving it a sci-fi feel.
- Replaced cockpit and nose with clam shell-style opening doors
- Doors are wide and tall enough for an ATV-sized vehicle to be driven onboard via a built-in ramp
The new front end — along with the lack of pilots — may strike former passengers or crew alike as strictly sci-fi.
Author's summary: Sikorsky's U-Hawk prototype is a revolutionary autonomous aircraft.
