The real story behind the Wounded Knee massacre

The Wounded Knee Massacre

On December 29, 1890, hundreds of Lakota Sioux men, women, and children were killed by U.S. Army troops on the Pine Ridge Reservation in the Wounded Knee massacre.

Despite the controversy surrounding the event, U.S. soldiers involved were awarded the Medal of Honor. Former Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin ordered a review of the medals, but Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has decided that the soldiers will keep their awards.

Nick Estes, a Native American historian, journalist, and author, discusses the actual events of Wounded Knee.
