Federal decision on scaled back Tasmania wind project delayed for fifth time

Tasmania Wind Project Delayed for Fifth Time

The St Patricks Plains wind project in Tasmania has been delayed for the fifth time, awaiting a decision under the federal Environmental Protection and Biodiversity Conservation (EPBC) Act.

The project, initially designed for 67 turbines, has been scaled back to 47 turbines with a capacity of 291 megawatts (MW).

A government spokesperson stated that the delays were requested by the developer, Ark Energy, with the new deadline set for November 28.

The project was deemed to need federal supervision under the EPBC Act in 2019.

Ark Energy acquired the project in 2022, contributing to the lengthy delays.
