Afghan Foreign Minister Maulvi Amir Khan Muttaqi announced the resumption of direct flights between Amritsar, a city in northwestern India, and Afghanistan.
Muttaqi made this announcement during a high-level interaction with industry leaders in New Delhi, organized by the Federation of Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, as reported by the Times of India.
The move has sparked hope for a revival of economic and cultural ties between the two nations, long constrained by geopolitical shifts.
In Amritsar, the news was met with enthusiasm, particularly given the city's past as a primary trade centre for Afghan commerce. Sachin Kumar, proprietor of Hotel Airlines, recalled the city's vibrant past, noting that Afghan visitors frequently stayed for weeks, driving trade and healthcare tourism.
The resumption of direct flights is expected to boost economic and cultural ties between India and Afghanistan.
