Georgia Baker Wins Opening Stage of Tour of Chongming Island
Georgia Baker took the victory and the GC leader’s jersey in the Chinese stage race after another rider was relegated.
The 108-kilometre opening stage was virtually flat and had hardly any obstacles, making a bunch sprint highly anticipated.
- Five riders attacked in the hope of staying out of the peloton’s grasp.
- However, they did not get much space as teams with sprint interests, including Liv AlUla Jayco, kept the gap bridgeable.
In the last 10 kilometres, the five riders were caught in rainy Chongming, and the entire Liv AlUla Jayco team kept the 31-year-old Australian sprinter in a good position.
Georgia Baker is the first leader of the Tour of Chongming Island.
