Luckenbach's Legacy: The Birth of Texas's Outlaw Country Sound
In 1973, singer-songwriter Jerry Jeff Walker and the Lost Gonzo Band gathered in Luckenbach, Texas, for a weeklong recording session that would give birth to the Texas outlaw country sound.
The result was the album ¡Viva Terlingua!, which defined what is now known as outlaw country and Texas music itself.
A new exhibition at Texas State University's Wittliff Collections, "The Big Bang of Texas Music!", celebrates this moment and puts visitors inside the room with Walker and the Gonzos as they forged a new musical language.
The sounds that shaped Texas music were born in a tiny Hill Country town...
The exhibition is a tribute to Jerry Jeff Walker and the birth of Texas outlaw country, fifty years after the iconic recording sessions.
Author's summary: Celebrating the birth of Texas outlaw country.
