The California Regional MLS (CRMLS), the nation's largest multiple listing service by subscriber count, has drawn criticism from Compass CEO Robert Reffkin.
Reffkin took to social media to express his concerns over the terms in CRMLS's user contract, which he believes unfairly exploits its subscribers.
“This week, the largest MLS in the USA (CRMLS) forced over 100,000 agents to accept a 10-page agreement giving CRMLS the right to SELL the agents’ CONTENT and CONTRIBUTIONS (eg, photos, video, listing data). They were unable to do their jobs without signing away all rights to their content as access to the MLS was blocked until they clicked ‘agree,’”
Reffkin compared this action to a phone carrier cutting off service until users agree to let them sell their photos and texts, highlighting the perceived injustice.
