The Alaska Department of Education and Early Development has released guidelines on developing artificial intelligence (AI) policies in schools, recommending a shift beyond bans towards responsible AI use.
These guidelines, presented last week, include recommendations on cultural responsiveness and security considerations for AI policy-making. According to Anthony White, DEED Computer Science Content Specialist, the guidelines not only advise school districts on AI policy but also position Alaska for federal AI education grants and funding opportunities.
"It positions Alaska to be highly competitive for federal AI education grants and other funding opportunities by demonstrating a clear, unified-level strategy,"
author notes: Alaska joins over half of the US in AI education guidance.
