The Utah Republican Party has initiated two efforts to undo a voter-approved initiative and a newly approved set of congressional maps.
In Salt Lake City, Utah GOP Chair Rob Axson filed a citizen initiative to repeal Proposition 4, a 2018 measure creating an independent redistricting commission. He also filed a referendum to overturn the new congressional map passed by lawmakers in a recent special session.
Utah voters “did not understand what they were signing up for” when approving Proposition 4
Proposition 4, which passed with 50.34% of the vote, established a seven-member independent commission to draw and recommend congressional and legislative maps for the Utah Legislature’s approval.
