Durgapur Gang-Rape Case Update
A court in West Bengal's Durgapur has sent the arrested male friend of the gang rape victim, Wasif Ali, to seven days police custody.
According to sources, when presented in court, no lawyer initially appeared for Ali, but as per Supreme Court rules, a lawyer from the Durgapur Sub-divisional Legal Aid Centre represented him.
The police have conducted DNA tests on five people who were arrested earlier.
Asansol-Durgapur Police Commissioner Sunil Kumar Choudhary stated that only one person was involved in the physical sexual assault and the role of the victim’s male friend is being investigated. Ali was arrested due to inconsistencies in his response during interrogation.
