The US Africa Command (AFRICOM) has chosen Libya as the host of the "Flintlock 26" exercise, aiming to boost the unification of the country's military institution.
According to AFRICOM Deputy Commander Lt. John Brennan, the exercise will focus on countering extremist organizations and will be the first time Libya hosts a training location.
The "Flintlock 26" maneuvers, scheduled for next spring near Sirte, will bring together western and eastern Libyan forces for the first time, with the goal of enhancing security cooperation and supporting efforts to unify Libya's military institutions.
Brennan noted that Libya has significant economic opportunities and potential for developing the security sector, but stressed that realizing these opportunities depends on unifying the security forces.
