Horizon Collective: Interdisciplinary Collaboration at University of San Francisco
The Horizon Collective is a new program at the University of San Francisco, where 115 first-year students from 13 majors come together to tackle the world's most pressing problems.
The Horizon Collective is four years of applied learning at the intersection of sustainability, health, and technology. That's where the world's biggest challenges are — and where the jobs are.
According to Hannah Martin '29, students in the program recently completed a mental health module, discussing topics such as eco-anxiety and climate change. As part of the module, each student used AI to build a wellness app.
- Hannah Martin created an "appreciate-nature" app, which allows users to log things they feel grateful for and learn about plants and trees using their camera.
The program aims to address the shift away from nature in today's society.
Author's summary: Students collaborate to solve global problems.
